Grace Hill Winerys Fall Release Party: The winery at 6310 S. Grace Hill Road in Whitewater will premiere several wines, some reformulated and some brand new, at its release party from 5:30 to 8 p.m. on Friday. The winery will also be serving buffalo meatballs, sweet potato hummus, turkey/cheese wraps, quinoa salad and chocolate balls. Admission is $20 a person, and RSVPs are required at 316-799-2511.
Mikes Wine Dive Wine & Cheese Pairing: This event, scheduled for 6:30 p.m. on Tuesday, will feature five wines paired with five high-end cheeses. Admission is $30 a person, and credit card reservations are required at mikeswinedive.com.
Bordeaux Wine Tasting at aVenue Banquet Hall: This wine tasting, put on by Auburn Spirits, is at 6 p.m. Tuesday at 13303 W. Maple and will feature seven Bordeaux wines plus snacks plus a Riedel wine glass to keep. Admission is $35 a person. Reservations are required by calling 316-440-1111.
Two restaurant closings
Bartellis Pizzeria, the restaurant at 10330 W. Central opened in 2003 by Bruce Bartel, has closed, according to a message on the restaurants answering machine. The restaurants last day in business was Sunday, and the space is listed for lease with Landmark Commercial Real Estate. Bartellis served New York-style pizza slices.
Also, a short-lived Wichita Mexican restaurant has closed. The phone is disconnected and theres a for rent sign in the window of El Maya, the Mexican restaurant that opened a year ago in the former Dyne Quik building at 1202 N. Broadway. The building is one of Wichitas remaining Valentine diners.
Uncle Joes opens in old Tallianos space
Tallianos is gone, but a new pizza buffet has taken its place. Uncle Joes Pizzeria just opened in the spot at 8404 W. 13th that previously housed Tallianos. Uncle Joes, owned by Joe Arensdorf, has a buffet that has the white sauce Tallianos fans loved. But it also offers a choice of thin or thick crust, and patrons can order other items, too, such as wings, stromboli and pepperoni rolls.
Hours are now 11 a.m. to 9 p.m. Mondays through Thursdays, 11 a.m. to 10 p.m. Fridays and Saturdays, and 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. Sundays. For more information, call 316-351-5545.
