MIAA

Southwest Baptist (0-2, 0-1 MIAA) at No. 14 Pittsburg State (2-0, 2-0), 7 p.m. — Pittsburg State’s running game fell short last season, and the Gorillas seems to have refocused their efforts in the backfield. QB Anthony Abenoja, who rushed for 241 yards and three touchdowns last season, is averaging 70.4 rushing yards and has already scored twice on the ground. Abenoja is also averaging 219.5 passing yards and hasn’t throw an interception in 48 attempts. Sophomore RB Jeff Seybold received a medical redshirt last season and is averaging 95.5 yards at an incredible 9.1 yards per carry. Pitt State senior LB Nate Dreiling has 19 tackles through two games and is 70 away from breaking the Gorillas’ career record.

Saint Mary (1-1, 0-0 KCAC) at No. 10 Tabor (2-0, 0-0), 7 p.m. — Fresh off an upset of No. 10 MidAmerica Nazarene, Tabor’s defense gets another stiff test with Saint Mary QB Josh Ervin, the KCAC’s leading passer. Ervin is averaging 323 passing yards and has thrown for eight touchdowns and three interceptions. Tabor has the top scoring defense (11.0 points) and second overall defense in the KCAC, giving up 315 yards.

Fort Scott (0-4, 0-3 Jayhawk) at No. 17 Dodge City (3-1, 2-1), 1 p.m. — Picked to finish sixth in the Jayhawk preseason poll, the Conquistadors pulled the biggest conference upset in years last week with a 40-34 overtime win over No. 11 Hutchinson. New coach Gary Thomas brought a star to western Kansas with him from College of DuPage in 6-foot, 205-pound RB Tyreis Thomas, the Jayhawk’s leading rusher with 450 yards and six touchdowns. Thomas rushed for 114 yards and two touchdowns on 23 carries against the Blue Dragons, including the game-winning touchdown in overtime.
