A 4-month-old boy was placed in protective custody and his parents are being questioned after he was brought to a local hospital Wednesday evening, police said.

The infant was brought to Via Christi Hospital St. Francis emergency room at about 6:30 p.m. Wednesday, Lt. Doug Nolte said. He was found to have bruises on his buttocks and bleeding in his eyes.

He may also have fluid on the brain, Nolte said. The parents, a 30-year-old man and a 33-year-old woman, were taken to the Wichita-Sedgwick County Exploited and Missing Child Unit for questioning.

“The baby will be fine,” Nolte said.

No arrests have been made in the case, he said. The family lives near Harry and Edgemoor.
