A Wichita man was arrested Sunday morning on suspicion of aggravated child endangerment.

Wichita police were called to the 700 block of West 23rd Street shortly after 1:30 a.m. Sunday, according to Sgt. Bart Brunscheen, spokesman for the Wichita Police Department.

A woman reported seeing three small children walking on 23rd Street, then approaching a house in the 700 block. The man who answered the door seemed dazed and confused, she said. Officers contacted the mother, who was at work. She said she had left her children in the man’s care.

“He appeared to be intoxicated,” Brunscheen said. “It was enough for them to arrest him for child endangerment. At the very least, you had children ages 3, 4 and 5 out on the street alone ... His state of intoxication and what witnesses saw was enough to arrest him.”
