Executive director, Via Christi Village on Ridge Road
Life got in the way of Nannys first stab at college. He dropped out in the 1980s and became a landscaping supervisor for the city of Wichita to support his family, later teaching horticulture classes for Wichita Area Technical College.
Fifteen years later, when his wife, Sharon, talked him into going back to college, Nanny finished his degree in health care administration at Wichita State University.
My original goal and dream was to do health care administration, he said. It's kind of an odd career path.
Nanny, 48, grew up in Wichita. He said he knew he wanted to help elderly people but didn't think hed be good as a medical care provider.
I thought health care administration would be the next best thing.
Nanny spent a decade working for nursing homes in Eureka and Baxter Springs before coming to Via Christi in May. He oversees a staff of about 120 employees. In addition to a 70-bed assisted living facility, Via Christi recently opened an 80-bed skilled nursing community at the site. I love leading staff, seeing them grow and mature and learn new things, he said.
Nanny and his wife have a grown son, Britt. When not working, Nanny is a fitness enthusiast and big fan of WSU and University of Arkansas sports teams, his father having come from Razorback country.
Other than that, I still like taking care of my yard from my previous landscaping experience, he said.
