A welcome break from summer-like heat arrives in the Wichita area today, with highs only reaching the low 90s.

South winds will still flex some muscle, forecasters say, with gusts nearing 25 miles an hour. Lows overnight will settle in low 70s under mostly clear skies. The south winds will ease to single digits, occasionally pushing into the low teens.

Wednesday offers more highs in the low 90s, forecasters say, with a slight chance of showers arriving late in the evening. South winds will stay light.

Chances for showers persist into Thursday, forecasters say, with highs in the upper 80s.
