New Realtors chief to assume post in mid-October

The Wichita Area Association of Realtors has hired a new chief executive.

Richard “R.J.” Marshall will begin his duties as the association’s new leader Oct. 14, said Jerry Gray, the group’s board president.

Marshall comes to the association from the Realtor Association of Prince William in Woodbridge, Va., where he is CEO.

Gray said Marshall was one of two “very good” candidates that WAAR interviewed, following a national search begun after former association CEO Tessa Hultz announced in early June that she was leaving.

Gray said Marshall was well prepared for his interview, seemed insightful about issues facing the industry going forward and “had a very congenial personality that made (the interview) very comfortable.”

“The combination of those things made him a good choice to move us forward,” Gray added.

He said the market where Marshall is coming from is comparable to Wichita.

Gray also said Marshall has a fairly extensive background in Realtor and other industry trade associations.

Hultz, who left the CEO post in early August, accepted a job as CEO of the Raleigh (N.C.) Regional Association of Realtors.

She had been CEO of WAAR since February 2010.
