Wichita police are seeking the public’s help in finding people who are driving all-terrain vehicles on city streets.
“Anything (driven) on a street must be properly tagged and have safety equipment,” Lt. Doug Nolte said.
ATVs do not meet those criteria, he said, so they are illegal to drive on the street. An officer spotted someone driving a four-wheeler in the 1100 block of West MacArthur at about 9:15 p.m. Sunday, but they went off-road before the officer could apprehend them. The officer was unable to pursue them and lost contact.
Anyone who sees people driving four-wheelers on city streets is encouraged to report it to a police substation, Nolte said.
“It presents a safety concern,” he said. “Vehicles like that aren’t supposed to be on the road and there’s a reason why. We don’t want anyone to get hurt or killed” as a result of dangerous riding.
