A woman narrowly missed gunfire Friday night after a 76-year-old man hit her head with a long-barreled rifle then fired at her when she fled the house, Wichita police Sgt. Bruce Watts said.

The woman, 48, gave the account to police who responded to a report of shots fired at the house, in the 900 block of North Cleveland, around 9 p.m. Friday. Watts said the woman sustained “superficial lacerations” only and was not struck by any bullets.

He didn’t know the nature of the pair’s relationship. The house is near I-135 and 8th Street.
