— Gov. Sam Brownback on Friday honored more than 80 employees who have worked for the state for 40 and 50 years.

“God bless you and thank you for serving the people of Kansas, so long, so honorably, so faithfully,” the governor said in a punch-and-cookies reception in the rotunda of the state Capitol.

Two employees, Thomas Eddy and Allen Grunder, were honored for 50 years of state service.

Eddy is a professor of biology, specializing in botany and entomology, at Emporia State University. Grunder was the Winfield-area engineer for the Department of Transportation until retiring in April.

Eighty-one employees from a variety of agencies across Kansas were honored for 40 years of service.

The largest groups were 20 from Kansas State University and 18 from the University of Kansas.
