Chris Smith pitched a three-hit shutout, leading the Wingnuts to a 6-0 win over the AirHogs on Thursday night in Grand Prairie, Texas.

The win gave Wichita a 2-0 lead in the best-of-five American Association playoff series. Game 3 is Friday night in Wichita.

Smith, a 32-year-old right-hander, limited Grand Prairie to three hits. He retired 12 consecutive batters at one point. His only previous career shutout came in a seven-inning game in 2006 while pitching in Double-A for the Portland Sea Dogs.

Ryan Khoury and Jared McDonald each had three of Wichita’s 13 hits, and each player scored twice. Jake Kahaulelio drove in three runs.

The Wingnuts took a 1-0 lead in the third when Khoury drove in McDonald, then made 9t 2-0 in the fourth when Cole Armstrong knocked in Brent Clevlen. Wichita added two runs in the fourth, and singles runs in the seventh and ninth innings.
