Area residents are encouraged to get moving during “Walktober,” a program that starts next month to encourage people to walk every day.
The Sedgwick County Health Department and the Health and Wellness Coalition are working with area employers, attractions and museums and trails to encourage daily walking.
A news release from the health department said people may participate in Walktober by setting a goal to walk five days each week during October.
People also may get involved by joining the Family Challenge at their child’s school, the Worksite Challenge through their employer’s wellness program, the Community Challenge through the coalition or the Senior Challenge through a senior center.
Walktober participants can also get involved in GoWalk, an eight-week program that begins in October and ends with the two-mile Turkey Trot event. Group walks are planned, including three clinics on Oct. 5, 19 and 24. More information is available by calling 316-978-9690 or 316-613-2479.
