A Hutchinson man died early Saturday afternoon after his truck was rear-ended by a dump truck and then smashed into another vehicle, the Kansas Highway Patrol said.

According to an online crash report, 58-year-old Daniel Joseph Heimerman was killed in the Allen County crash, which occurred at 12:20 p.m. about one mile north of Moran. The highway patrol reported that the dump truck hit Heimerman’s 2006 Chevrolet 2500 truck as it was stopped in the northbound lanes of U.S. 59 and waiting to turn. The impact forced the truck into an SUV headed south, the KHP said.

The driver of the SUV, a 43-year-old Leavenworth woman, was taken to the hospital for treatment. The 21-year-old La Harpe man driving the dump truck was not hurt, the KHP said.

Moran is about 32 miles northeast of Chanute.
