John Rodriguez homers twice in Wingnuts’ win

John Rodriguez hit two homers to power the Wingnuts to a 10-2 win over the Saltdogs on Wednesday afternoon in Lincoln, Neb.

Rodriguez scored the game’s first run when he singled with two outs in the first inning, moved to second on C.J. Ziegler’s walk and scored on Brent Clevlen’s single to left.

Jake Kahaulelio made it 2-0 with a homer in the third, and the margin remained the same until the sixth when Clevlen singled, moved to second on a wild pitch and scored on a base hit by Madison Beaird.

Lincoln scored twice in the bottom of the sixth to pull within one run.

Rodriguez his is first homer in the seventh inning, then the Wingnuts broke open the game with a six-run eighth highlighted by a three-run homer from Rodriguez.

Clevlen and Rodriguez each had three hits of Wichita’s 15 hits.

James Giuletti (3-0) was the winning pitcher, going 5 2/3 innings. Four relievers combined to allow one hit in the final 3 1/3.

The Wingnuts have five games left in the regular season, and need one more win to clinch the best record in the league.
