A Sedgwick County sheriff’s investigation involving a large theft of mail has “really snowballed” and has branched into surrounding counties, an official said Wednesday.

The investigation, disclosed two weeks ago, has led to three additional arrests for burglary, auto theft and possession of narcotics, sheriff’s Lt. David Mattingly said. Investigators suspect that multiple criminal groups are involved, he said.

On Aug. 9, detectives using a search warrant at a Sedgwick County residence recovered mail, checks, credit cards and Social Security cards from more than 150 people, authorities had previously disclosed. A 23-year-old woman was arrested.
