Sedgwick County sheriff’s deputies have been involved in two significant marijuana busts in recent days, an official said Wednesday.

This past Thursday, a search after a traffic stop found 32.5 pounds of marijuana in a car on the Kansas Turnpike between the 127th and Lincoln interchanges, sheriff’s Lt. David Mattingly said. “That’s not a bad catch at all,” he said. Mattingly said he didn’t know the estimated street value of the marijuana.

The marijuana was found after a sheriff’s dog indicated it had detected drugs, the Sheriff’s Office said in a statement. According to the account, the driver, a 33-year-old Kansas City man, was arrested for possession of marijuana with the intent to distribute it.

Also, this past Thursday, authorities acting on a Crime Stoppers tip seized 17 marijuana plants and 1.5 pounds of processed marijuana at an indoor and outdoor facility in a fairly rural area in the 9000 block of South Meridian, south of Haysville, Mattingly said. Investigators arrested a man in his 20s.
