Investigators have determined a fire at an east Wichita fourplex early Saturday morning was an arson.

The three people who live in the dwelling where the fire occurred, including a 1-year-old girl, escaped unharmed, authorities said.

The fire was reported shortly before 7:15 a.m. at 6510 E. Cottonwood, fire Capt. Stuart Bevis said. That’s just southeast of Kellogg and Woodlawn.

Fire crews first on the scene reported smoke coming from the back of one of the four units in the building, Bevis said.

“The fire had burned itself out,” Bevis said in an e-mail response to questions.

A fire investigator determined the blaze was intentionally set, Bevis said. The two adults in the unit were interviewed, but no arrests have been made.

The investigation remains active, Bevis said. Damage to the building from the fire was set at $15,000.
