The pilot of a single-engine plane made an emergency landing near Pretty Prairie on Wednesday after the craft’s engine apparently malfunctioned, according to reports from emergency dispatchers in the surrounding counties.

According to emergency scanner traffic, the pilot called 911 around 5:30 p.m. and told a Sedgwick County dispatcher “an engine blew” and that the plane needed to land. The pilot was reportedly near Cheney Reservoir at the time.

Emergency crews from several counties spent more than an hour searching for the plane. It was found by Kingman County sheriff’s deputies shortly before 7 p.m. near Northeast 110th Avenue and Northeast 60th Street, a Kingman County dispatcher said. That’s just north of the Reno-Kingman county line and about six miles south and east of Pretty Prairie.

The pilot – the sole occupant of the plane – was unhurt, the Kingman County dispatcher said. She did not know the pilot’s age or place of residence.

The plane was reportedly a Cessna 182.
