Homeless woman attacked, robbed

She wanted to sell her Vision Card for cash, but she didn’t trust the buyer so she didn’t take the card with her for the transaction.

It still turned out badly for her, Wichita police said.

The 34-year-old woman, who lives in her car, went to an apartment in the 900 block of South Kansas early Monday morning after agreeing to sell the card, Wichita police Lt. Doug Nolte said.

“She was concerned about whether this was a legitimate sale,” Nolte said. “She was going to get the money and then go get it.”

The buyer had other ideas, though. He hit her on the head with a metal pipe and stole her purse, which contained IDs.

Police were called at about 12:30 a.m. on Monday and went to the apartment, where they arrested the 32-year-old man after he tried to escape by pushing an air conditioner unit out a window, Nolte said.

The victim was taken by a friend a local hospital, where her head wound was stitched up.
