Torrential rains have bolstered Cheney Reservoir, in a week Wichita city officials describe as a “another great week for beating back the drought.”

The reservoir’s Monday morning measure of the conservation pool – the source of the city’s water – is 86.39 percent of capacity, some 14 percentage points higher than in June.

Meanwhile, the city’s water consumption for the past week was a little more than 352 million gallons, less than half the almost 734 million gallons used during a heat wave last year in the middle of the drought.
