Morning thunderstorms left about 8,000 residents without power in Wichita, Derby and other parts of Sedgwick County early Friday morning.

A Westar Energy spokesman said the power would most likely be restored by late Friday morning. A cause is yet to be determined.

The number of residents without power was down to 2,241 as of 9:15 a.m.

The outages were mostly in northwest Wichita and the southeast portion of the county, according to Westar’s online map.

Wichita received almost 1.5 inches of rain since midnight Friday, according to the National Weather Service.

Most of the thunderstoms were expected to clear by this afternoon.
