Five people were hurt – two critically – after an SUV drove off of I-235, sideswiped a car and then hit a second car after it crossed the median into oncoming traffic Wednesday.
Joshua A. Seipel, 20, and James L. Moore, 58, remained in critical condition Wednesday evening at Via Christi Hospital on St. Francis, a hospital house supervisor said. The men were in the SUV, described as a 2006 Jeep Liberty, as it headed south in the outside lane of I-235 and crashed, the Kansas Highway Patrol said in an accident report.
Seipel, of Garden Plain, was driving, the patrol said. Moore, a Eureka resident, was a passenger.
Three people inside the car that was struck after the SUV crossed the median were also hurt, the highway patrol said. Wichitan Elizabeth Miller, 23, a 2-year-old girl and a 5-month-old boy were taken by ambulance to Wesley Medical Center but had been released by Wednesday evening, a hospital operator said.
The 35-year-old woman driving the car that was sideswiped was not hurt, the highway patrol said. The wreck happened about 5:20 p.m. south of Kellogg.
