A man suffered serious injuries to his head and torso after a van he was working beneath slipped off a scissor jack and fell on him, according to a Sedgwick County sheriff’s sergeant.
Sgt. Gary Hargus said two deputies and a sheriff’s supervisor rescued the man after they arrived at a house in the 4300 block of Wood Hollow Court, in the Oaklawn area, shortly before 4:30 p.m. Tuesday. The deputies used heavy-duty jacks they keep stowed in their patrol cars to hoist up the van, he said, while the supervisor pulled the man out.
The man, in his 20s or 30s, was taken to Wesley Medical Center in serious condition, a Sedgwick County dispatch supervisor said. The van’s front end landed on the man’s head and chest, Hargus said; his abdomen and ribs were trapped under the body of the vehicle.
Two females and a man were at the house at the time, Hargus said.
