A 2-year-old boy who was rescued after he fell into Gypsum Creek remained in critical condition but has shown signs of improvement, his grandmother said Saturday.

The boy has moved his feet and arms and has partly opened his eyes, Rebecca Boren said.

Wesley Medical Center said he remained in critical condition as of Saturday afternoon.

A Wichita police officer rescued the boy Friday morning after he had been on a walk with his grandfather and slipped and fell into the creek in the 8300 block of East Gilbert, near Kellogg and Rock Road, and went under the water.
