A 39-year-old Wichita woman has been jailed on suspicion of aggravated child endangerment after she left her two young children home alone and one – a 4-year-old ‑ was found wandering outside early Wednesday, according to police.

Wichita police Lt. Jeff Weible said officers discovered the children, who are 7 and 4, alone at a house in the 1300 block of North Madison as they were there investigating another case. Authorities found the younger child “wandering the street,” he said.

Police arrested the mother, Weible said; the children were unharmed and taken into protective custody.

A police incident report shows the children were reported alone at 3:46 a.m.

The mother remained in Sedgwick County Jail on Thursday evening in lieu of $10,000 bond, jail records show. She has not been formally charged.
