A physical fight between a man and woman continued in the water at Lake Afton after the woman jumped out of a boat and the man followed her, the Sedgwick County Sheriff’s Office said Wednesday.

The office gave this account: At 4:20 p.m. Sunday, deputies responded to a report of a physical disturbance at Lake Afton and learned that a 27-year-old woman and 31-year-old man were in a boat with others and that an argument between the two led to a physical altercation between them. Trying to flee for her safety, the woman jumped out of the boat, and the man followed her. “The physical altercation continued in the water,” the office said in a statement.

Someone flagged down a passing boat for help, and the woman was taken to the shore.

Detectives arrested and booked the man into jail, and he has been charged with aggravated battery, sheriff’s Capt. Mike Stover said.
