Sheriff’s officials on Wednesday identified the man whose body was found in a pool at a Derby-area home.

The man, who was pronounced dead at the scene, is identified as Kyle Phelps, 34, of Derby, the Sedgwick County Sheriff’s Office said.

“It’s being investigated because it was an unattended death,” sheriff’s Capt. Mike Stover said. Phelps was connected to the resident and frequented the home, Stover said.

The Sheriff’s Office gave this account: About 3:08 p.m. Tuesday, deputies were dispatched to the 4500 block of East Finn, north of Derby, near 63rd and K-15, to “check the welfare” of Phelps. Deputies found his body floating in the swimming pool and performed CPR. An EMS crew arrived and determined that he had died.

“The investigation is continuing to determine the circumstances surrounding this incident,” the office said in a statement.
