A farm shed near Rose Hill is a complete loss after a fire quickly overtook it Sunday morning.

Firefighters were called to the 9900 block of South 159th Street East near Rose Hill in Sedgwick County shortly after 10 a.m. Sunday

Mulvane firefighters arrived at the scene first, followed by Sedgwick County firefighters and units from McConnell and Rose Hill, said Sedgwick County Fire Chief Buddy Pressnell.

“It was a tin-covered metal building, more like a machine shed,” Pressnell said. “It had some equipment in there. There were at least two pickups that received damage. The structure itself was a total loss.”

Pressnell estimated the building may have been valued at $60,000; the loss to power tools and contents stored within the building are valued at $15,000 to $20,000.

A resident on the property saw fire coming out of a walk-in door on the building, Pressnell said, and called 911 to alert authorities.

The fire was brought under control within an hour.
