The second Hispanic and Latino Health and Wellness Fair will be held from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. July 20 at Century II Exposition Hall.

The event, which is for all ages, includes free medical screenings, door prizes, immunizations, diabetes and blood pressure checks, body fat analysis checks and nutrition information.

“The event is for everyone but targeted toward our Latino community,” said Abel Perez, owner of Synergic Resources and one of the event’s organizers. “Mexican food is good, but a lot goes with it, like diabetes.”

Exhibitors from various sectors of the health industry are expected to participate, including, for example, dental professionals, nurses and chiropractors.

Last year’s inaugural fair had about 2,400 attendees and more than 85 booths, Perez said. Organizers hope to have more attendees this year.

“My goal is 3,000 people,” Perez said.

Most services at the fair will be free, but it will also offer $10 school physicals for students, Perez said.

Perez said he and other organizers saw a need for the fair with the growing Hispanic population. He said last year’s event had people of all backgrounds, which he thinks is ideal.

“We just want to have a healthier community,” he said.
