Wichitans who enjoy the thrill of a garage sale find and the satisfaction of supporting local students will have a chance to do both next week.

Members of the Wichita Collegiate School band will host an all-school family garage sale to raise money for their trip to the Sugar Bowl in New Orleans in January.

Troy Fischer, the school’s band director, said that 40 students will make the trip next year. The band plans to take a bus to New Orleans, where it will perform with a group of other high school bands during halftime at the Sugar Bowl on Jan. 2.

Items for sale include clothing, household items, electronics, furniture, books, plants, bedding and framed artwork. Shawna Horsch, the sale’s organizer, said some of the donated items are new.

The sale will run from 7 a.m. to 5 p.m. Thursday and Friday, and from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. July 20. It will take place in the school’s North Garvey Gym, 9115 E. 13th St.
