Federal health agency awards more than $1.6 million in Kansas grants

The Department of Health and Human Services has announced more than $1.6 million in grants to health centers across Kansas, according to a news release.

The grant dollars are expected to be used to hire 32 additional workers to assist more than 25,000 people with health insurance enrollment in the new health insurance marketplaces, which are expected to start enrolling Oct. 1 at www.HealthCare.gov.

Nationwide, HHS is distributing more than $150million to 1,159 health centers as part of outreach and enrollment assistance for the Affordable Care Act’s mandate that nearly all citizens have health insurance.

• Community Health Center of Southeast Kansas, Pittsburg, $215,024

• County of Shawnee, Topeka, $89,943

• First Care Clinic, Hays, $82,331

• Flint Hills Community Health Center, Emporia, $102,615

• GraceMed Health Clinic, Wichita, $216,443

• Health Ministries of Harvey County, Newton, $79,482

• Health Partnership Clinic of Johnson County, Overland Park, $109,281

• Heartland Medical Clinic, Lawrence, $66,040

• Hunter Health Clinic, Wichita, $213,198

• Konza Prairie Community Health Center, Junction City, $94,816

• Prairiestar Health Center, Hutchinson, $106,069

• Salina Health Education Foundation, Salina, $88,040

• United Methodist Western Kansas Mexican-American Ministries, Garden City, $97,291.
