A Kansas City man was charged in federal court Tuesday with robbing an Overland Park bank with a hatchet.

Derek T. Brownlee, 35, allegedly wore a bandanna over his face Monday and jumped over a teller’s counter at Metcalf Bank, 7800 College Blvd. The robber took cash and some personal electronic items.

Brownlee allegedly led Overland Park and Kansas City police on a car chase reaching speeds of 90 mph before he stopped in the 8700 block of Indiana Avenue in Missouri and attempted to flee on foot.
