A local motorcyclist died Saturday morning after he crashed into a minivan on Ridge Road and Westport, police said.

The man, in his 40s, was driving south on Ridge Road about 8:10 a.m. when he passed a truck pulling a trailer in the curb-side lane and struck the van, Wichita police Sgt. Jim Merrick said.

“He basically pulled out to make his pass at the same time a local man in his 50s was making a left turn” onto Ridge from a side street, Merrick said.

The motorcyclist was transported to Via Christi Hospital on St. Francis, where he was pronounced dead, Merrick said. His name has not been released.

The crash site is in the 1800 block of North Ridge Road, between 13th and 21st North. No other injuries were reported, Merrick said.
