A Wichita man has been charged with raping a 10-year-old last month.

Jason Robert Monarez, 36, appeared in Sedgwick County District Court on Friday to hear a formal reading of the charge. According to the complaint, Monarez is accused of having “sexual intercourse with a child under 14” on May 11.

His bond has been set at $100,000. Monarez remained in Sedgwick County Jail on Friday evening, records show.

Monarez was arrested in downtown Wichita at 2:36 p.m. Tuesday on suspicion of rape of a child, a Wichita Police Department arrest summary shows. The crime was reported to police June 14, more than a month after it occurred, according to a police report.

Monarez has prior convictions for arson in a 2008 Harvey County case and drug possession in Sedgwick County in 2003, Kansas Department of Corrections records show.
