A crash on Kellogg near West Street around 11 a.m. Friday injured a motorcyclist and snarled westbound traffic for about 30 minutes.

The motorcyclist was traveling westbound on Kellogg when he tried to avoid a dog on the highway, Sgt. Jerry Quick said. The rider lost control and had to lay the bike down.

An off-duty officer was following the motorcyclist when the crash occurred and was able to assist.

The motorcyclist was transported to Via Christi Hospital on St. Francis in serious condition. However, the injuries were not life-threatening, Quick said.

“Luckily he wasn’t struck by other vehicles,” Quick said. “He’ll probably be sore for a few days, but should be fine.”

All lanes of Kellogg have reopened.
