Spirit AeroSystems has added a leading aviation and defense analyst and a defense expert to its senior leadership team.

The company has added Heidi Wood, a former Morgan Stanley managing director and global head of aerospace and defense analyst, to serve as Spirit’s senior vice president of strategy.

It also added Duane Hawkins, a 30-year veteran of the aerospace industry and former Raytheon Missile Systems and General Dynamics executive, to serve as senior vice president of operations.

“One of my principal goals at Spirit is to ensure our strategy, operational and cost performance are world class, and I am confident that Heidi and Duane will help us accomplish exactly that,” Spirit CEO and president Larry Lawson said in a statement. “Both are well-known and highly respected in our industry, and they join what is already a solid leadership team.”

Wood adds a “uniquely valuable perspective” and in-depth industry knowledge as the company shapes its strategy going forward, including mergers and acquisitions and investor relations, Lawson said.

Hawkins adds expertise across operational, supply chain, engineering and program management roles, he said.

Hawkins most recently was vice president, deputy, air warfare systems at Raytheon Missile Systems, where his program responsibilities included the Tomahawk, AMRAAM, Sidewinder AIM 9X, Paveway, MALD, JSOW, Maverick, Griffin and others.

Wood served at Morgan Stanley from 1999 to 2012. Before that, she was an analyst for Cowen and Co. For 12 years, she was ranked a Top Three/Runner Up analyst by Institutional Investor All Starts and served on the Presidential Commission for the Future of the U.S. Aerospace Industry. She was one of the leading analysts for Spirit’s initial public offering in 2006.

She most recently served as senior vice president and co-leader of global sales at Avjet Corp.

Wood and Hawkins will report directly to Lawson.
