Thief makes off with $57,000 in goods

A theft late Friday night resulted in $57,000 in losses for a business near 10000 N. 247th St. West. Among the stolen items were 20 spools of 12-4 wire, six spools of No. 4 wire and an electric motor.

Lt. David Mattingly of the Sedgwick County Sheriff’s Office said he has heard talk of requiring serial numbers to be stamped on pieces of copper wire, but he said that because the stolen wire is often sold outside the county’s jurisdiction, such a regulation may not prove effective.

Mattingly said any information regarding this case should be reported to Sheriff’s Investigations at 316-660-5300 or Crime Stoppers at 316-267-2111.
