A 36-year-old Cowley County woman died Tuesday after her car drifted into a ditch along K-15 and rolled multiple times, according to the Kansas Highway Patrol’s online crash log.

It remains unknown why the 1998 Mazda passenger car veered off the road as Brandie C. Owen drove north on the highway two miles west of Dexter, in southeastern Cowley County, the highway patrol said. But when she went into the ditch, Owen overcorrected and crashed shortly after noon Tuesday.

The wreck killed Owen, a Dexter resident, according to the highway patrol. Her two passengers – an 11-year-old boy and 4-year-old girl – were hurt. The children were taken to William Newton Memorial Hospital, where they were treated and released, a hospital house supervisor said late Tuesday evening.
