Jackson County authorities have accused four people of holding a woman against her will, repeatedly beating her, forcing her to eat a bug, gluing her mouth shut and leaving her naked in a parking lot in the East Bottoms.

Charged with felonious restraint in the incident that occurred last June were Michelle R. Lingle, 37; Manley D. Gilbert, 49; Anthony L. Pinion, 43; and Nicole Strohm, 37, all from Kansas City. Strohm and Lingle also were charged with second-degree assault, armed criminal action, theft and multiple counts of third-degree assault. Pinion also was charged with second-degree assault, armed criminal action and multiple counts of third-degree assault.

The delay in filing criminal charges was due to the amount of DNA and other investigative work needed, said Michael Mansur, spokesman for the Jackson County prosecutor’s office.

According to court records, investigators interviewed the victim on June 24, 2012, after she arrived at St. Luke’s Hospital. The victim suffered bleeding on her brain and multiple bruises and abrasions to her face and body. She also had blisters and swelling to her lips and gums. The victim said she was kept at a residence in the 5800 block of East 10th Street in Kansas City over a two-day period a year ago.

The victim, now 34, said Strohm repeatedly punched, kicked and struck her with a wooden paddle. Strohm also cut the victim’s hair, took her jewelry and forced her to take pills. Others at the residence said they saw Strohm assault the victim. Several of them joined in the attack. Several teenagers also saw the assault and were encouraged to participate.

Strohm and the others continued to attack the victim throughout the night. The victim later was driven to the 3800 block of Gardner Avenue, where she was forced out of the vehicle and left naked in the parking lot. She flagged down a passing motorist, who drove her to the hospital.

Witnesses told investigators they saw Strohm eventually glue the victim’s lips together. Before that, a witness said he saw Pinion beat the victim and make her eat a bug. The witnesses, who were teenagers, told investigators they were instructed to watch the victim so she wouldn’t leave.
