Eliezer Mesa drove in the game-winning run in the 11th inning Saturday night as the Sioux City Explorers beat the Wingnuts 7-6 at Lewis and Clark Park in Sioux City, Iowa.

The Explorers’ Adrian Martinez was hit by a pitch to lead off the inning. Pinch-runner Brian Bistagne moved to second on a sacrifice bunt, then scored on Mesa’s single to right field.

The Wingnuts scored three times in the first inning. They loaded the bases with nobody out on a walk and two singles, then C.J. Ziegler drove home two with a single. Brent Clevlen added an RBI single.

But Sioux City tied the game quickly against Wingnuts starter Anthony Capra. A hit batter and two walks led to Yusuke Inoguchi’s three-run triple.

Inoguchi added another RBI for the Explorers.

The Wingnuts again took a three-run lead by the third inning. They got a single run in the second on Ryan Khoury’s single that brought in Jared McDonald, who had doubled.

Wichita added two runs in the third inning on David Amberson’s two-run single, plating Clevlen and Abel Nieves.

Daniel Bennett was the losing pitcher in the 11th inning.
