Wingnuts shut out Sioux City

Three Wingnuts pitchers combined on a five-hit shutout, leading Wichita to a 2-0 win over the Explorers on Friday night in Sioux City, Iowa.

Junior Guerra (4-0) went 7 1/3 innings and tied his career high with nine strikeouts. Daniel Bennett finished the eighth inning, and Josh Dew pitched the ninth for his sixth save. It was the Wingnuts’ fourth shutout of the season.

Jake Kahaulelio and C.J. Ziegler provided all the game’s runs with solo homers in the first inning.

Abel Nieves had two hits and extended his hitting streak to 14 games. John Rodriguez singled in the eighth, sending his streak to eight games.
