The Friends of the Girl Scouts are hosting a garden party to help restore the Fresh Air Baby Camp.

The party, which features Robin Macy, is from 7 to 9 p.m. July 13 at the home of Bill and Sharon Quincy, 420 N. Garland. Tickets are $75 per person, or $85 per person at the door.

The Fresh Air Baby Camp, located in Wichita’s North Riverside Park, is listed on the National Register of Historic Places and is in the process of being restored. Owned by the city of Wichita, the camp was built in 1920 as a one-story, concrete-block building and first operated as a health care center for babies until 1926. Later it was leased to the Girl Scouts of America. The scouting organization stopped using the building in 2000.

It is one of the last remaining baby camps in the nation, where mothers could take their newborn children to get away from diseases and infections often found in a city hospital environment. Nurses from Wesley Hospital helped staff the camp.
