A 31-year-old man was arrested Wednesday after he showed his displeasure over his girlfriend’s new tattoo by trying to choke her with a T-shirt, police said.

The couple got into an argument shortly after 7 p.m. at their residence in the 4100 block of East Dunham Wednesday, Lt. Doug Nolte said. That’s northwest of Oliver and 31st Street South in the Planeview neighborhood.

The man was not happy that his 24-year-old girlfriend had her son’s name tattooed on the back of her shoulder, Nolte said. The argument escalated until the man wrapped a T-shirt around her neck and attempted to “choke her out,” Nolte said.

He also hit her several times. The victim has a medical history of seizures and had more than one during the assault, Nolte said.

She was eventually able to call 911 and police arrested the man upon their arrival.
