A 31-year-old man was arrested on suspicion of child endangerment after leaving his 3-year-old son unattended in a car at a McDonald’s around 5:40 p.m. Sunday, according to police.

Witnesses said the child was left in the car for at least 30 minutes. The man was reportedly inside the fast-food restaurant at 2437 S. West St., near Pawnee, with his other children, 4, 5 and 6, police said.

The heat index was 95 degrees on Sunday. Wichita police Lt. Doug Nolte said police do not know whether the car was on at the time; however, even with the air conditioning on, he said it is still dangerous to leave a child in a vehicle.

“Leaving a child in a vehicle, regardless of weather conditions, is not acceptable,” Nolte said.

The child was uninjured, and all four children are with family now, he said.
