An El Dorado motorcyclist suffered critical injuries when he veered off a Kellogg onramp and slammed into a guardrail Saturday morning, authorities say.

Johnnie W. Cawthorn III, 65, was thrown from the 1997 Honda cycle after striking the rail about 8:45 a.m., according to a Kansas Highway Patrol crash report. He was headed south on I-135 and left the road for an unknown reason as he tried to exit west onto Kellogg, east of downtown.

Cawthorn was taken to Via Christi Hospital on St. Francis for treatment, according to the highway patrol. He remained in critical condition Saturday afternoon, a hospital house supervisor said.
