A 51-year-old man was arrested Thursday on suspicion of two robberies earlier this week, at Taco Bueno, 427 N. Hillside, and Dollar General, 1624 E. Central.

The man is accused of robbing the Taco Bueno of cash Tuesday, armed with a handgun and fleeing on foot. The next day, a man who fit the police’s description also robbed the Dollar General store with similar tactics.

After conducting witness interviews, police found and arrested a man on Thursday. Due to the man’s criminal history, the department is considering sending it to a federal level.

“Basically, we will take any crime that involves the interruption of interstate commerce and also involve handguns or any type of violent crime,” Wichita Police Lt. Joe Schroeder said Friday. “Usually the criteria we will look for is the individual is a career criminal then we will try to take the charge to the federal level.”

The man is currently in jail.
