Historic flags tell story of America’s past

  • Published Friday, June 14, 2013, at 8 a.m.

Today is Flag Day, a day set aside to honor the nation’s flag.

In honor of Flag Day, a display of historic flags will be presented Friday and Saturday at Maple Grove Cemetery, 1000 N. Hillside.

The flags will be flown 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Friday in the veterans section, near the north end of the cemetery. They will be flown again Saturday from 9 a.m. to noon.

David Martin, who owns the collection of flags, along with cadets from junior ROTC groups at Northwest, Southeast and East High Schools and Mead Middle School, will help interpret the stories from each of the flags, which range from the days of colonial America to present. The presentation will be at 9 a.m. both days.
