Nieves, McDonald spark Wingnuts’ 11-0 win

Abel Nieves and Jared McDonald each homered and drove in four runs as the Wingnuts beat the Goldeyes 11-0 on Tuesday night in Winnipeg.

Nieves hit a grand slam in the fifth and McDonald added a three-run shot in the sixth as Wichita broke open the game in the middle innings.

The Wingnuts took a 1-0 lead in the first when Ryan Khoury hit a leadoff double, moved to third on a groundout and scored on a John Rodriguez sacrifice fly. That margin stood till the fifth, when Tim Rotola singled in McDonald two batters before Nieves’ slam.

Jon Link (5-1) threw eight shutout innings, striking out six, and lowered his ERA to 1.69.
