The Kansas Department of Health and Environment recently released the first quarterly report to the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services for KanCare, the state’s Medicaid program that started Jan. 1.

The report, which contains financial information through March 31, says that 323,869 people were enrolled in the program at the end of the quarter.

KanCare beneficiaries are divided among three plans, which are managed by Amerigroup, United HealthCare and Sunflower State, a subsidiary of Centene.

The managed care organizations have added “value added services” to the programs they provide, including things like adult dental care, youth organization memberships and cellphones.

The total amount of those services totaled about $1.9 million, according to the report. Sunflower State had the greatest amount of services at about $1.2 million.

Although most issues that have arisen during the transition have been resolved, the report states that one issue that continues is the “timeliness and accuracy of information used via the electronic visit verification, authorization and claims submission process.”

The report also stated that during the transition, the state held a series of education meetings throughout the state for both consumers and providers.

A total of 619 people attended consumer meetings; 297 people attended provider meetings; and 92 people attended nursing facility meetings.
