Wingnuts lose 8-7 to Saints

The St. Paul Saints beat Wingnuts 8-7 on Friday night in St. Paul, Minn.

The Saints scored three in the first, one in the fifth and four in the seventh to build an 8-2 lead. The Wingnuts nearly overcame the six-run deficit, scoring five times in the eighth.

Ryan Khoury scored on an error, Jake Kahaulelio was forced home on a bases-loaded walk, John Rodriguez scored on a fielder’s choice, C.J. Ziegler scored on a single and Abel Nieves came home on a bases-loaded hit batsman.

In the ninth, the Wingnuts put the tying run at second and the go-ahead run on first with two outs. Colt Loehrs hit a single to left, but pinch-runner Tim Rotola was thrown out at the plate to end the game.

Loehrs and Kahaulelio had three hits apiece. Kahaulelio homered.

Wingnuts starter Chris Smith gave up five runs and took the loss.
